
Filmmaker
Lluís Quílez (Barcelona), a graduate in Directing from ESCAC, is a film director, screenwriter, and producer of feature films, TV shows, and short films, with over 20 years of experience in the audiovisual industry.
He is the founder and producer at Euphoria Productions. His work in short films—EL SIGUIENTE, AVATAR, GRAFFITI, 72%, LA GRAN OBRA—has earned wide international recognition, with over 200 awards at international festivals, including the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, two Méliès d’Argent, a Goya Award, and two Forqué Awards. He has also received a Gaudí nomination and was twice shortlisted for the OSCARS® (in 2017 and 2025). Variety magazine featured him on their “10 to Track” list, highlighting him as one of the 10 Spanish filmmakers to watch.
His feature film debut, OUT OF THE DARK (2015), was produced by Participant Media. A supernatural thriller shot in Colombia and starring Julia Stiles, Scott Speedman, and Stephen Rea, the film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and received a warm reception in more than twenty countries where it was released in theaters. It is currently available on Amazon Prime.
In 2021, he wrote and directed the action thriller BAJOCERO, produced by Netflix and starring Javier Gutierrez, Karra Elejalde, Luis Callejo and Patrick Criado. The film became a global number-one hit, surpassing 50 million views and ranking among the most-watched non-English-language films in Netflix history.
In March 2024, he premiered his latest project as showrunner and director: an eight-episode series titled “MANO DE HIERRO”, produced by The Mediapro Studio for Netflix. Set in the freight port of Barcelona, this high-stakes narco-thriller stars Eduard Fernández, Chino Darín, Natalia de Molina, and Jaime Lorente.
Over the last decade, he has also combined his directing career with teaching, working as a professor in Screenwriting and Directing at leading film schools and universities across Spain.
